A City From an IP Addressin One Request

Google's Geolocation API returns a coordinate and an accuracy radius, from cell towers and WiFi or, without them, the caller's IP address. MapJet's IP lookup returns the country, region, city and time zone, counted as one request on every plan.

How We Counted

  • Google figures are the Essentials prices on Google's pricing list, checked October 26, 2026. Each SKU includes 10,000 free calls/month, which replaced the $200 monthly credit on March 1, 2025. Each volume range after that is billed at its own rate.
  • A map view is one Dynamic Maps load in the Maps JavaScript API. MapJet counts the tiles a view loads. The examples assume 20 tiles a view; set your own figure in the calculator.
  • Address autocomplete is priced per Autocomplete request. When a session ends in a Place Details call, Google bills that call instead, at $5/1,000 after the free calls.
  • IP lookups are priced as Geolocation API calls, which return coordinates only. Naming the city from them takes a reverse geocode, billed as Geocoding and not added here.
  • Above 1,000,000 requests/month or 5,000,000 tiles/month, MapJet Scale applies, with no monthly limit.
  • MapJet's address autocomplete and geocoding cover US addresses. Google's cover more countries.
